About the Fellowship
The Sustain-FIT PLUS Fellowship is a prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) Career Development programme co-funded by Enterprise Ireland. This initiative will support 50 fellows in advanced research roles across Irish Technology Centres and Gateways, including placements at Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR).
Fellows will join a leading research centre for 3 years, including 12 months in an industry placement. Each fellow is paired with both an Academic Mentor and a Company Mentor to guide research, training, and professional development.
Who is this opportunity for?
This fellowship is open to candidates who:

Hold a Doctoral degree or have at least 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience

Have not resided in Ireland for more than 12 months in the last 3 years

Are motivated to grow their career through collaboration with industry in a market-focused research project

Wish to live and work in Ireland, one of Europe’s top innovation hubs for SMEs
Opportunities Available at IMR
1. Design for Manufacturing
Title: Sustainability Assessment of Binder Jetting for High-Value Products
Summary: This research compares the environmental performance of binder jetting versus traditional manufacturing (e.g. billet machining) for high-value stainless steel products. Areas covered include material reuse, lightweight design, machine packing density, and sintering processes.

2. Sustainable Manufacturing
Title: Beyond the Basics: Advanced Energy Optimisation for the Food Industry
Summary: This project targets high-energy-use processes such as steam production, thermal processing, refrigeration, and wastewater treatment. It focuses on identifying advanced, less-visible strategies to optimise energy use in food manufacturing facilities that have already implemented standard efficiencies.
