Cutting Edge Industrial IoT: Industry Problems and Practical solutions

Industrial IoT promises visibility, reduced downtime and smarter products. In practice, delivering measurable results requires far more than connecting devices.

This 60-minute session distils the engineering decisions that determine whether IIoT projects scale or stall at pilot stage.

Why Attend?

Successful Industrial IoT deployments depend on robust design across sensors, connectivity, power management and security.

In this webinar, we’ll explore the practical realities behind:

  • Sensor integration in demanding industrial environments

  • Predictive maintenance systems that deliver actionable insights

  • Low-power connectivity trade-offs and network performance

  • Secure embedded design and lifecycle management

  • Building scalable, sensor-to-cloud architectures

What You’ll Gain

Learn how applied IoT engineering can help you:

  • Increase uptime through real-time condition monitoring

  • Reduce waste by detecting failure modes earlier

  • Develop connected products that are secure, reliable and scalable

Real-world deployments have demonstrated:

  • 17% reduction in energy consumption in remote sensor systems

  • 50% faster network attachment in cellular deployments

We’ll unpack the design decisions that enabled these outcomes.

Who should attend

  • Engineering and R&D teams

  • Maintenance and operations leaders

  • Automation and embedded systems engineers

  • Product development managers and

  • Digital transformation leads

Presenters:

Mike Hibbett, Senior IoT Technologist at IMR
Mike Hibbett Senior IoT Technologist

Mike is a senior technologist working in IMR’s IoT division. He has 30 years of experience developing embedded systems, focusing on firmware and electronics design, and device security architecture. He has led product development teams for companies such as Intel, Philips and Thales where he led the UK high grade cryptographic solutions software group.

In his spare time Mike lectures undergraduates in Embedded Systems, and runs up hills.

Shane Thompson, Senior IoT Researcher at IMR
Shane Thompson Senior IoT Researcher

Shane is an embedded systems engineer in IMR’s IoT Team. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Electronic & Computing Engineering and has over four years of experience in electronics R&D. Shane specialises in embedded system design across firmware, digital and analogue hardware, and cloud-connected IoT technologies.

He has developed solutions spanning LTE-enabled sensor devices, predictive maintenance systems, strain-gauge instrumentation, GNSS-assisted edge devices, and industrial actuator control. His work combines firmware development with PCB design, and front-end dashboards for data visualisation.

In his spare time, Shane builds audio electronics and makes music.
